TechEd 2005 - MGT355

Corey Hynes gave a great presentation on WSUS (Architecting and Deploying WSUS). This was the main focus of why I came so this really was a key presentation for me.

Some key points I got from it were:

- SUS will still work if you want to stay with it (why, I don't know though).

- MBSA/SMS/SUS/WSUS will all check with the same source for info when scanning a machine. A new Windows Catalog is now being used to track many things (OS, Exchange, SQL, Office)

- Your own deployment will depend on the size (# of nodes)and availablility of your clients.

- You can use the included MSDE/WMSDE or you can use SQL (either local or on a seperate server).

- A new ADM file is availble to mange the policies for WSUS on the targeted machines (WUAU.ADM)

- Key things to do with WSUS, Always put it behind a firewall, follow the OS best practices, and always use SSL.
